Wrexham close gap on Clarets

The player who helped Wrexham into that position last week was former Claret Gareth Taylor. He was in the dug out for our recent visit there but in their game against Tranmere he scored both goals in the home side's 2-1 win.

It was a win that would have been by a much bigger margin but for Tranmere goalkeeper Joe Collister but he could do nothing to prevent Wrexham taking the lead in the seventh minute as Taylor converted a penalty after a foul on Marc Williams.

He made it 2-0 midway through the second half with a close range header at the far post but went on to miss two good chances that should have seen him get a hat trick. Tranmere grabbed a late consolation from Cole Stockton but it was reported that, at times during the second half, Collister was a one man band keeping out Wrexham as he pulled off save after save.

This week's only game between Morecambe and Oldham was postponed because of the Kendal Town pitch being waterlogged.

There is virtually a full fixture list next week, other than Burnley's home game against Macclesfield which will now be played in April.

Those fixtures are shown below along with the league's leading scorers and Burnley's goalscorers.
