A look back at our wonderful championship season
Fifty years ago Burnley Football Club were champions of England. Over the past nine months we've been chartering the season, game by game, right to the last of those games against Manchester City at Maine Road.
What a reception for the Champions
It was an evening the town of Burnley would never forget as the Football League Champions of fifty years ago celebrated the receiving of the trophy with a tour of the town.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 11th May 1960, Burnley Football Club were presented with the Football League Championship Trophy at a special luncheon at the new Keirby Hotel.
Champions are shocked at reception
"The trouble is, you just can't realise we're the Champions," said one Burnley player about two hours after the final whistle at Maine Road, Manchester had confirmed a 2-1 win over Manchester City and given the Turf Moor team the two points necessary for the League championship.

When Burnley kicked off the season in August 1959 I don't think many envisaged that a 2-1 win in the last game of the season against Manchester City at Maine Road would see us crowned champions.
We have to beat Manchester City at Maine Road
The last day of the 1959/60 season brought big wins for both Wolves and Spurs. With Burnley unable to win against Fulham at Turf Moor it left us in third place but knowing that a win against Manchester City at Maine Road would see us crowned as champions.
Can my mate have a trial at Burnley?
Some fifty-three years ago, a Burnley player, undergoing National Service at Catterick, asked at Burnley headquarters if his pal from the same unit could have a trial at Turf Moor.
