Familiar faces in reserve game at Rossy

Last updated : 17 March 2011 By Tony Scholes
With a narrow lead at the top of the league we were due to play second place Preston last night but that was called off because of our first team game against Coventry. That gave Wrexham the chance to catch Preston on points and they did that emphatically with a 4-0 win against Accrington with the game played at Dark Lane, home of Rossendale United.

Wrexham led 1-0 at half time with a goal from Marc Williams and within ten minutes of the restart he'd completed his hat trick to ensure the points were going back to North Wales. Adrian Cieslewicz added a fourth from the penalty spot to complete the scoring.

Kevin Long, on loan from Burnley, was in the Accrington side but there were more familiar faces to Burnley in the Wrexham side, and ones we'd seen only the night before. Both Gareth Taylor and Glen Little lined up for Wrexham. Little is currently on trial there.

There'd been a penalty too in the game played on Tuesday and it was a hotly disputed one on the game between Shrewsbury and Oldham. Nathan Elder converted it for the home side for the only goal of the game.

There were two games played last night. At Kendal, Morecambe beat Macclesfield 2-1. Dan Parkinson and Jim Bentley got the goals for Morecambe with Sam Cook.

Two Dale Jennings goals gave Tranmere a third successive win. They've certainly recovered from the recent mauling at the hands of Preston when they were beaten 8-1. They've since won three successive games, scoring a total of 12 goals whilst keeping three clean sheets.

Burnley could well lose top spot next week when Preston face Wrexham. A win for either side would see them go above us whilst a draw would leave them both one point behind. With that game played Wrexham will have played one game more than us and Preston.

We are next in action a week next Tuesday when Oldham are the visitors to Turf Moor.
