Paul Weller leads the way at awards night

Paul Weller won seven “Player of the Season” awards whilst goalkeeper Nik Michopoulos won five, with another two won jointly between them. The only two other players to win the main awards were Steve Davis and Ian Cox who both picked up one.

The young player of the year awards went mainly to Brad Maylett with a couple of others to Anthony Shandran and five goal of the season awards were made. Paul Weller’s goal in the first home game against Wimbledon picked up one but Ian Moore’s first Burnley goal at Preston won the other four.

Boundary Clarets, as well as making their usual awards, made three special awards. One was a Special Achievement Award to Chris Brass, now at York. Brassy was there to accept the award and received a magnificent ovation from a packed audience. They also gave an Outstanding Achievement Award to manager Stan Ternent and then made a presentation of £425 (£25 for each clean sheet kept) towards a children’s memorial garden at Burnley General Hospital.

The entire playing staff were present along with all the coaching staff and most of the board. The evening was superbly run by Mick Docherty (and did he say in a recent programme that he wouldn’t know what to do if he ever finished coaching?).
