Up to second in the league

Well done to our young side who made a decidedly disappointing start to the season. Having won the first game again Accrington we struggled to find any sort of form and won just one point in the next three games.

That's all behind us now and Saturday's win was our fifth in six games; four of those coming in the league and one in the Alliance Cup.

Our elevation to second place was courtesy of Rochdale having no game. We've gone above them on goal difference. Both of us have scored 26 league goals this season, more than any other side.

Blackpool finally fell from grace on Saturday and dropped points for the first time this season when they were beaten at home by Oldham. Contrast that with Preston's win against Bury. It's their second win of the season and was enough to lift them off the bottom of the league. They've climbed four places with Wrexham, who lost heavily at Macclesfield, now in bottom place.

Wrexham are still to win this season, as are Carlisle who drew with Accrington. At the other end of the league, Blackpool's defeat leaves Port Vale as the only unbeaten side although they would be disappointed to get just one point from a draw against Tranmere.

In the other two games, Wigan beat Walsall with Shrewsbury and Stockport drawing, and now, this week, we turn our attentions to the Youth Alliance Cup.

Burnley reached this second round with a 3-0 win against Chesterfield but we couldn't have been given a tougher draw with Blackpool the opposition. Hopefully they will be ready to lose a second game of the season.
