Preston play, win and go top

Last updated : 30 September 2010 By Tony Scholes
The game was played yesterday at Chorley's Victory Park and it was victory for home side Preston and that climb to the pinnacle of the table.

Preston had dominated the game and had already had a string of chances when Jamie Douglas gave them the lead on 34 minutes, sticking out a leg to divert a George Miller shot into the corner. That lead was doubled seven minutes into the second half when Neal Trotman rose to head home a left wing corner taken by Neil Dougan.

Despite dominating by now it was Bury who got the next goal when a Max Harrop shot was deflected home but it was Preston who completed the scoring with a goal from Danny Mayor two minutes from the end.

The win has taken them above Oldham, Wrexham and Macclesfield on goal difference with Burnley a further two points behind in fifth place. It's Ash Hoskin's team that has the first chance to topple North End from the top. The only game next week is ours at Chorley against Preston and a win would return us to the top of the league.
