Jay Rodriguez - Burnley's leading scorer with three goals
They have now got a positive goal difference of one after scoring seven goals in those games and the latest win was by the just the one goal against Bury on Tuesday night. They dominated the game and should have won by more but in the end were thankful to Deane Smalley who scored the winning goal close to the end and that despite being down to ten men after Jon Worthington was sent off.

It was the only game played on Tuesday but there were three more on Wednesday night with Macclesfield's win over Accrington taking them level on points with Oldham. Michael Thomas was the goalscorer at Moss Rose in the second half, the goal coming after the ball dropped from a long throw.

Tranmere continue to struggle with their one point keeping them off the bottom with Bury still to get off the mark. Tranmere travelled to Kendal to play Morecambe and it was the League Two side who came out on top with a 2-0 win.

Adam Rundle got their first with a strike from 35 yard. Craig Stanley got the second and it was a performance that pleased coach Jim Bentley who said: "It was a great performance against a strong Tranmere team who had a lot of players who had tasted first team action. The attitude and the commitment shown by our lads was first class and I'm really pleased with the performance and the result."

That just left Preston's game at Shrewsbury and they were the only side to gain any points on the road this week. After a quiet first ten minutes the game suddenly came to life with three goals in three minutes.

Shrewsbury struck first through Kris Bright, but three minutes later it was North End in front as Jamie Douglas scored twice. By half time however it was all square again with Ben Van Den Broek getting the home side's second.

North End won it just past the hour when George Miller headed home a Danny Mayor cross and just as Bentley was pleased with Morecambe's effort, so was David Unsworth with Preston's performance.

He said: "We always go on about performances in the reserves but before the game I just felt we needed a win for both the young pros and the youth team, for their confidence. All we asked for them was to work their socks off and get us a win; they've done that and Jamie Hoyland and I are delighted."

With no game this week, Burnley have dropped from top spot to third in the table, but with two games in hand on the top two. We're back in action next Wednesday when we travel to Cammell Laird's Kirklands Stadium in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead to play Tranmere.
