Besides the cup there was one league match played, that between Carlisle and Blackpool. This game was called off on the Saturday after Gary Parkinson was taken ill but was rescheduled with Blackpool continuing their great start to the season and keeping their 100% record as they extended their lead at the top of the table to four points and with a game in hand.

The rest of us, or most clubs, were in cup action and pride of place has to go to Oldham who beat York from the North East Conference 9-0, by far the biggest win of the day. In fact, our 3-0 win against Chesterfield was the next biggest.

Accrington, Preston and Tranmere all won away from home, beating Burton Albion, Lincoln and Scunthorpe respectively but for the other four it was penalty shoot out time with a couple of very big scores.

Morecambe beat Port Vale 5-4 when it went to spot kicks and Walsall were 4-2 winners against Shrewsbury, but they went into sudden death on the other two before Stockport came out on top against Hartlepool (8-7) and Rochdale went even further before recording a 10-9 penalty shoot out win against Notts County.

It's back to league action for Burnley next week and finally our first away game of the season. We don't have too far to travel. Our opponents are Bury and the game will be played next Saturday morning at Rossendale United's Dark Lane.
