Burnley top of reserve league - for now

They weren't in action this week so we were guaranteed the leadership once we'd beaten Macclesfield on Monday at Turf Moor when Chris McCann and Louis-Rae Beadle got the goals.

One the same night Oldham did their chances no harm at all when they travelled to the Globe Arena to face Morecambe. They came home with a 4-0 win. Ben Stevens and Lewis Alessandra were the goalscorers in the first half. Ryan Burns made it 3-0 after the break and Alessandra got his second to complete the scoring.

If that boosted their hopes then they suffered a blow two days later when they turned in a poor performance at Macclesfield and were hammered 5-1. It started badly when goalkeeper Dale Connor was forced off with concussion after just ten minutes and from there it went from bad to worse.

Substitute 'keeper Shaun Routledge, who had played at Burnley a couple of weeks ago, had to pick the ball out of the net within two minutes with Vinny Mukendi getting the goal. Right on half time it was 2-0, this time Greg Daniels finding the net.

Routledge gifted Macc a third early in the second half with Adam Roberts having the easiest of chances. Jordan Trinci-Lyne got the fourth and Daniels got his second to make it 5-0 before Oldham scored a late consolation through Kirk Millar with a superbly struck free kick.

Tranmere came from behind to win at Accrington. Trialist Andy Parry scored the equaliser with Ryan Fraughan winning it five minutes from time.

Wrexham moved back into third place with an easy win against bottom of the league Bury. Marc Williams gave them the lead and after Bury had missed a penalty the same player made it 2-0 before half time.

Early in the second half, Williams completed a hat trick and Nat Knight-Percival made it 4-0 before Bury pulled one back through Max Harrop. And anything Williams can do, so can Knight-Percival who scored two more to complete his hat trick and the scoring.

Finally, Morecambe recovered from their Monday night hammering to beat Shrewsbury 1-0 with a Josh Draycott goal.

Preston have a chance to go back to the top on Monday when they play the first of their games in hand against Bury and they play again two days later as Burnley travel to Accrington. Burnley need to win that game at Accrington and beat Preston the week after. That would then force Preston to win all of their remaining games to beat us.
