Burnley and Macclesfield pulling clear

Alex MacDonald - scored the second in this week's win
While Burnley were beating Shrewsbury on Tuesday night, Macclesfield were becoming just the second team this season to take points from Oldham and that allowed them to climb above Accrington, Oldham and Wrexham into second place.

They'd started the week behind them all on goal difference but a Vinny Mukendi goal, his second of the season, was enough to give them victory at Stalybridge against an Oldham side who had a 100% record since the hammering they took from us in August.

That was it on Tuesday with the other scheduled game, Bury v Preston, called off because Radcliffe Borough's ground had been doubled booked.

Wednesday saw the two remaining games played with wins for Accrington and Tranmere. Stanley had to come from behind at home to Morecambe. The Morecambe goalscorer is not, as yet, available, but they took the lead in the first half with Rory Boulding bringing Stanley level within a minute.

Chris Turner grabbed the winner to give them their third win in five games and it left coach Asa Hartford enthusing. "I am really pleased with the attitude and application which the players showed throughout the full 90 minutes, having built on the first half performance against Shrewsbury Town," he said.

Finally, at Cammell Laird, Cole Stockton was the hero for Tranmere with both goals in their win against Wrexham. The first year scholar's first came on twelve minutes with a shot from outside the box and he confirmed the win with a header ten minutes from time.

Next week is League Cup week which means no game for Burnley. Our next scheduled game is on Wednesday 27th October at Macclesfield, on the afternoon of our Carling Cup tie at Villa Park. As yet, the fixture has not been moved.
