Toolstation return for Vinnicombe

Vinnicombe became Tiverton boss in the summer but recently was relieved of his duties after a poor start to the season. Vinnicombe himself admitted that he probably took the job too early and he needed more experience before managing at that level.

This week he's been given the opportunity to return to management with Elmore who play in the Toolstation Western League First Division and will be in charge for the first time tomorrow, weather permitting, when they play away against St. George.

Elmore chairman Jed Hewitt is certainly not putting too much pressure on his new man, who he selected from a number of good candidates. He admitted: "We are not expecting Chris to set the world alight. It is going to take time because he won't know many of the players.

"Our objective this season is to keep our head above water and then look to steadily progress next season. It would be unfair to say that we expect him to get us into the top three or four in the table because that would be impossible. Our expectations are for him to help us to avoid relegation and then look to build next season. It is not going to be an instant thing - it takes time to stamp your mark on a club."

Vinnicombe came close to playing for Burnley at Elmore In July 1998 when new manager took us on tour to the South West of the country. However, Vinnicombe had turned down the offer of a new contract and was about to sign for Wycombe Wanderers when two Glen Little goals and one each from Andy Payton and Paul Smith gave us a 4-0 win.
