He went on to make just thirteen league appearances for Burnley, with all but two of them as a substitute, before dropping into non-league football, initially with Accrington.

Matt, who will celebrate his 30th birthday in two days time, started last season with Nantwich Town but moved closer to home and to Nelson in December where he was able to line up alongside younger brother Ed who had, at one time, been with Hull at youth team level.

To make everything complete, elder brother Joe, who played league football for both Preston and Bury, signed from Ashton United later in the season and now all three brothers have been signed again to play with Nelson next season.

Meanwhile, former Burnley youngster Nicky Platt is on the move again. Platt joined the club's youth team in but was released two years later.

The midfielder has since played for clubs such as Stalybridge Celtic, Witton Albion and FC United of Manchester before last season moving to play his football at Edgeley Park for a club who once considered themselves to be our rivals.

His latest move has seen him join up with the Class of 92 at Salford City, playing in the Northern Premier League.
