Tanner in charge at Leeds

Last updated : 14 April 2007 By Tony Scholes
His first game was Everton's 2-0 win at Reading in December and more recently he was in charge of the 0-0 draw between Wigan and Fulham at the Concrete Jungle. The only card in those games was for Wigan midfielder Luis Antonio Valencia, and that's something of a surprise given his record.

Tanner has a reputation for penalising away players far more often than home players, and that's certainly been the case this season. In 30 games this season he's handed out 75 yellow cards, but only 23 have gone to home players with 52 to away players. That was also the case in our game against Preston when the three players booked were Danny Dichio, Danny Pugh and Burnley goalscorer Sean St Ledger.

It could have been worse for Preston, he was very lenient in not sending off Dichio after clashes with both Michael Duff and Wayne Thomas, but overall he handled the game well, as he had done when he refereed us previously at Wolves last season.

Now in his fourth season he has improved considerably, his first Burnley game at Coventry was poor, and we can expect him to get more Premiership games in the future.

My only real concern tomorrow is his leaning towards the home team, but with bookings no longer counting that shouldn't be a major problem.

He will be assisted by Andy Haines (Tyne & Wear) and Richard Hewitt (Yorkshire) and the fourth official will be David Benton (Yorkshire).
