Sixth Burnley game for Oliver Langford

Last updated : 30 October 2015 By Tony Scholes

The first of those previous five games was at Doncaster back in early 2011. It was Eddie Howe's third league game in charge of the Clarets and Langford's performance was as bad as the two teams that night in a game we lost 1-0.

Since then he 's been better but his 67th position in RATE THE REF suggests not too much better. He has a rating of 41.89 out of 100 with only Carl Boyeson, Darren Sheldrake, Steve Rushton and Darren Drysdale below him.

Last week I warned that, no matter what, there would be cards in the game with Keith Stroud in charge. That one was shoved in my face; we got a very un-Stroud like performance when he kept is cards very firmly in his pocket.

With Langford it is probably the opposite. He's not a referee to overuse his cards generally and this season, in 13 games, he's handed out 31 yellow cards of which 17 have gone to home team players and 14 to away team players.

He's had two card free games this season although his last game, ten days ago, saw him hand out no fewer than six in Peterborough's 3-2 home defeat against Wigan. The first player carded was Wigan's Chris McCann right on half time but in the second half Peterborough had all of Chris Forrester, Michael Bostwick, Souleymane Coulibaly, Jermaine Anderson and Kyle Vassell yellow carded.

Tomorrow will be just his third Championship game of the season and despite being a Football League referee since the start of the 2008/09 season he is still utilised far more in the two lower divisions.

Hopefully he'll have a decent game tomorrow and let's also hope he proves me right this week and keeps those cards in his pocket.

The assistant referees are Billy Khatib (County Durham) and Danny Markham (Tyne & Wear). The fourth official is Football League referee Mark Brown (East Yorkshire) whose last Burnley game was the 3-0 home win against Birmingham in September 2013.
