Seven and a half million to agents

Last updated : 27 July 2007 By Tony Scholes

The new figures, published yesterday, show not only an increase in the amount paid but also in the number of player transactions that involved an agent, and that from less transactions.

There were 1,110 player transactions during the year from 1st July 2006 to 30th June 2007. Player transactions include new registrations, player transfers, contract updates, contract cancellations and loans. Of those 1,110, a total of 240 involved the use of an agent whereas in the previous year 210 of 1,212 involved the use of an agent.

The total spend as £7,528,501 and of that £7,233,125 was committed by the signing club and the remaining £295,376 by the player's previous club.

Only one of the Championship clubs didn't pay out anything at all, so well done for that to Colchester United. Burnley are in ninth place but certainly some way behind RK Sunderland, Southampton and Birmingham who made the biggest contributions to these figures.
