Rangers back on top as Palace lose clash at the bottom

Last updated : 08 November 2010 By Tony Scholes
QPR finally ended their run of draws with a 3-1 win against Reading and they knew that had taken them back to the top with Cardiff not playing until Sunday. They are still there after a Marvin Emnes goal won it for them at the Cardiff City Stadium.

They were the better side in a game which Cardiff should have finished with ten me. How on earth Michael Chopra (he once played for Newcastle you know) stayed on is anyone's guess. Still, the FAW will surely see that the correct and appropriate action is taken.

The win has taken Swansea five points clear in third place, ahead of Derby, Ipswich, Coventry and Norwich. Interestingly, had referee Trevor Kettle been doing his job properly on Saturday you wouldn't see Norwich there but you would see Burnley alongside the other three.

The big clash at the bottom was definitely that between Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace at the Riverside. They kicked off two points adrift of the rest and it was already looking an important game.

Palace were in front for much of it but once again, as happened to us, Tarmo Kink made an impact, bringing the home side level. It took a late own goal from Paddy McCarthy to swing it 'Boro's way to leave Palace three points behind the rest.

The two clubs directly above them, Bristol City and Preston, also met with the spoils shared leaving Bristol City, a club now ready to sell players after announcing big losses, in the third relegation place.

We've a full fixture list this midweek and those fixtures along with the weekend stats, the league's leading goalscorers and each club's disciplinary record is below.
