He replaced Dave Thomas that day and it was when Thomas left for QPR that he finally got a regular first team slot as the Clarets won promotion and then established themselves in the First Division.
However, it wasn't to last and after a big defeat at Ipswich in August 1974 he was left out of the side. He made just one more substitute appearance before being sold to Newcastle in December of that year for £120,000.

Geoff made a total of 152 appearances for the club in a number of different positions, scoring 24 goals and was very much one of Jimmy Adamson's Team of the Seventies.
