No UEFA run for McCartan and Northern Ireland

They needed just a draw yesterday against  Montenegro yesterday in a game that was scheduled to be played at Glentoran's Oval ground in Belfast. However, the pitch was waterlogged and the game was hastily moved to Mourneview Park, home of Lurgan.

Shay started, as he'd done in the Belarus game, but by half time they found themselves a goal behind despite having played well.

They just needed a goal and that came on 65 minutes from Ipswich Town's 18-year-old Josh Carson, a player who has already represented his country at full international level.

That goal lifted the hopes but five minutes later it was 2-1 to Montenegro and that's how it finished whilst Germany and Belarus played out a 3-3 draw in Portadown with Germany and Montenegro confirmed as the two qualifiers.
