No Pompey return for Nugent

Nugent signed for Portsmouth from Preston in July 2007 for £5.7 million but was never really in manager Harry Redknapp's plans. He has started just 18 league games for the south coast club and has often, when played, been used as a winger.

He's found the net just three times in those games, all coming during a three week period under manager Tony Adams earlier this year whilst he's also scored three times in cup competitions including one that knocked us out of the Carling Cup two seasons ago.

He's reported this morning as admitting it was a mistake going to Portsmouth and he doesn't want to return. Nugent is at Burnley until January at the opening of the next transfer window and the Clarets have an option to extend the loan or sign him permanently.

It looks as though a £2 million deal could bring the player back to the north west on a permanent basis and after yesterday's game I don't think many Burnley fans would see that as anything but a good move.
