New City deal on the way for Guidetti

Two weeks ago we reported that Guidetti had failed to turn up for training with the Dutch club after agreeing to sign for them at the end of his Manchester City contract. There was another offer for him at City but he'd decided to move to Holland and had signed a pre-contract with Twente Enschede.

It was reported that he'd decided he didn't want to go and cited the fact that the contract was invalid because his agent wasn't present when he signed it.

There was a suggestion two weeks ago that UEFA might get involved but tragedy hit Enschede when two workers were killed at their Grolsch Veste stadium which certainly left them with much higher priorities.

Things were further confused with Leicester trying to sign him as Eriksson continues to increase his squad, presumably eventually ending when their wage bill is equal to the rest of the Championship put together.

But, amidst all this, Guidetti joined Manchester City on their tour of America, something the likes of Craig Bellamy and Jo didn't manage, and played the second half for them last night against Mexican side Club America in San Francisco, hitting the post in the last minute.

Guidetti will now remain with City and is today's news is that he is set to sign a three year deal with them. One can only hope that the cost of his new deal doesn't impact too much on their competitive stadium naming rights deal with Etihad, the one that has so upset Arsenal and Liverpool along with a number of other clubs.
