Mellon hits out at Ginnelly

Their manager, former Claret Micky Mellon, stressed what a good club he was going to and their chief executive praised Burnley, and in particular our chief exec David Baldwin, for the way we handled the deal.

But Mellon, who was clearly unhappy at the time with Ginnelly's stance and the actions of his agent, has taken this opportunity to point out to his former player that he would now be playing first team football if he'd stayed put.

Shrewsbury have taken Sullay Kaikai on loan from Crystal Palace, a 20-year-old winger. Mellon told the Shropshire Star: Sullay's very similar to Josh Ginnelly; Josh would have been in Kaikai's shoes instead of Burnley's Under-21s. Look at Ryan Woods and Connor Goldson, they got big moves from playing for us.

"Josh is a similar age but he's been playing in an under-21 team. Young players are at these massive clubs but they haven't got a tenth of the games those guys have got. Sullay has come here to play, and if he plays he'll get better and he'll be a first team player."

Ginnelly, who is currently injured and missed yesterday's under-21 cup tie, made three substitute appearances for Shrewsbury in the league last season prior to joining Burnley, the last of which was in April.
