Shay McCartan wins Northern Ireland call

Shay is now in his second year with the Clarets after being spotted in the 2009 Milk Cup. He's started the season in top form and in the first two games has netted four of our six goals including a hat trick in the opening fixture against Morecambe.

Often played down the right hand side in his first season, he's now partnering new boy Jason Gilchrist and there are real signs of a fruitful partnership between the two.

It's not Shay's first call up and he's in the squad again for two friendly games against Switzerland early next month. Both games will be played in Ballymoney on Saturday 3rd September and the following Monday, 5th September.

Burnley's Director of Youth, Martin Dobson, said: "He has started the season really well. He is fit, has got good ability and we want to push on with him."

We are delighted for him and he fully deserves this recognition from his national team. We are delighted for him."

New boy Luke , a left back, is still to make his competitive debut in a Burnley shirt after just starting his two year scholarship. He's one of four new boys in the youth set up and he was certainly impressive in the games I saw during pre-season.

He's come to Burnley with a good reputation and that's been recognised after he was placed on standby for these two games. If he doesn't get in this time it surely means his first call up is not far away.
