Robbie Blake, Chris Eagles, Tyrone Mears and Joe McKee all made the move to Bolton previously but McCann has opted to join Championship club Wigan after letting his contract run out at Burnley.
Had he stayed at Burnley he would have, alongside Michael Duff, been our longest serving player after joining us as an apprentice in the summer of 2004.
In just the third game of the 2005/06 season he made a league debut for the Clarets, coming on as a substitute for Wade Elliott in a 4-0 win against Coventry.
He went on to play 268 league and cup games for us and that would have been more but for the injury sustained early in our Premier League season, a cruciate ligament injury that all but kept him out of the game for two years.
Just prior to that injury he was in outstanding form. His last full 90 minutes at home in the Premier League against Everton was probably the day he turned in his best ever performance for Burnley.
With his injury problems over he returned to the team just before the end of the 2010/11 season, scoring in that return game at Derby. He was able to add another 98 appearances before deciding to move on.
The move he's made comes as no surprise. Coyle was always an admirer and the first time I ever met the then Burnley manager it was McCann, the perfect midfielder, he wanted to talk about.
He's now got him back in his squad at Wigan where he's signed a three year deal.

“I had the pleasure of working with him at Burnley, and on a number of occasions we turned down some big-money bids for him, such was his importance to the team and the integral role he played in helping the club win promotion to the Premier League at a young age.
“He’s still young in football-terms, has plenty to offer and I hope to see him playing a big role at Wigan Athletic.”
