Luton gone

Kevin Blackwell - took over when Mike Newell was sacked last month
It was all academic, and just a matter of when, and a goal from Lewin Nyatanga eight minutes before half time was enough to move the Midlands club back into second place whilst for Luton it meant a return to League One after just two seasons in the Championship.

This season has been a somewhat controversial one for Luton, although nobody could have predicted a relegation when they beat Leeds 5-1 in mid-October to go fifth in the table, but since then they have won just fifteen points from thirty-one games and the point they won recently at Burnley was the only point they have gained in their last eleven games.

They recently changed manager with Kevin Blackwell taking over after they sacked Mike Newell. It all went sadly wrong for Newell who, apart from continually speaking out against the Chairman, had launched an attack on assistant referee Amy Rayner, caused uproar with Leeds by trying to re-sign Kevin Nicholls and then giving their manager Dennis Wise a very public verbal blasting. He'll be OK, he's gone off with his takings on the many sales they've made.

We'll miss Luton, if only for the away trips. They have quite a decent record at Burnley and they haven't lost here for twelve years. These last two seasons have both seen our home game against them draw, but it is a different story at Kenilworth Road. This season we beat them 2-0 with both goals from Andy Gray and just a year earlier we celebrated that incredible victory against all the odds when Brian Jensen was sent off.

Next season though, unless we draw them in the cup, we won't be going into any away grounds via someone's back yard, the strangest of entrances into a football ground.
