It's the Wright referee tonight

Last updated : 15 September 2015 By Tony Scholes

Despite him becoming a Football League referee twelve years ago, he's been an infrequent visitor to Turf Moor with tonight's game only his third and with only three of our away games to add to that.

His first two Burnley games were both at Brighton while he's since refereed games against Birmingham, Barnsley and Middlesbrough with the last of them coming in February 2013.

Wright's first game at this level was in January 2004 when it was still called Division One and it wasn't a quiet opening for him. He sent off both John Hills and former Claret Ian Cox, leaving Gillingham with nine men in a game they lost 2-1 at Derby.

But he's still a referee who you are more likely to see in the lower divisions and last season only 11 of his 31 games were at Championship level.

He's refereed five games this season, one of which has been in the Championship. He sent off Scunthorpe's Luke Daniels in their 2-1 defeat at Burton on the opening day of the season but that has been his only red card.

In those games he's totalled 17 yellow cards with seven going to home team players and ten to away team players. His last game was Walsall's 2-0 home win against Doncaster in League One. Both sides had two players yellow carded. For Walsall it was Andy Taylor and Sam Mantom and they were joined by Doncaster's Mitchell Lund and Paul Keegan.

Kevin Wright is currently 11th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 72.70 out of 100. This has been for just his last two Burnley games with the feature starting for the 2007/08 season.

The assistant referees tonight are former Football League referee Karl Evans and Richard Wild (both Lancashire). The fourth official is Mark Brown (East Yorkshire) probably best, or worst, remembered for sending off Kieran Trippier at Leeds in January 2012.
