It's the Deadman

These have been his only Burnley games to date, games that have brought us no less than ten yellow cards and two red cards whilst . He sent off Wayne Thomas at Ipswich and Clarke Carlisle at Wolves, the red card that cost him an appearance at Chelsea in the Carling Cup.

The good news is that he does seem to be slowing down somewhat with his cards. Since becoming a Football League referee in the 2005/06 season he's already amassed a total of 621 yellow cards and 44 red cards.

However, this season he's yellowed just 73 players in 19 games with only 5 red cards in those games. Two of those red cards came in the FA Cup tie between Torquay and Crawley when he also managed to yellow card nine players. He hasn't sent off a player at Championship level since the end of last season when he dismissed QPR's Peter Ramage in their 1-0 home defeat against Newcastle.

Deadman's last game was the clash Derby and Barnsley on Saturday when just Derby's John Brayford was carded.

As I wrote: we can only hope that he turns in a much better performance than in those games against Ipswich and Wolves.

The assistant referees tonight are Ross Joyce (Cleveland) and Danny Markham (Tyne & Wear). The fourth official is Stephen Smith (County Durham).
