Ilderton in charge of Millwall game

Last updated : 12 March 2011 By Tony Scholes
This will be his ninth Burnley game, and his first, like today, was a home game against Millwall back in the 2004/05 season. On that occasion we won the game 1-0 with a Robbie Blake penalty. Winning it with a penalty shouldn't come as a surprise; in six Turf Moor games he's awarded is no fewer than five penalties converted by five different players, the others scored by Garreth O'Connor, Jon Harley, Andy Gray and Graham Alexander. He also gave us one at Sheffield United this season which was scored by Chris Eagles.

Of all his Burnley games, the only one that stands out as being disappointing was the 2-1 win at Coventry in January 2008. It's no surprise, looking back, to see the name Dennis Wise on the opposition team sheet and again in this game the referee allowed him far too much influence.

We've never been short of cards from him in previous games but his record overall suggests we shouldn't expect too many. This season he's refereed 27 games in which there have been 60 yellow cards, not much over two per game, and five red cards.

Of those yellow cards, 27 have gone to home team players with 32 to away team players. As for the red cards; there were two Accrington players in a 3-0 defeat at Bury and two Plymouth players as they went down 4-2 at Oldham.

The fifth, and most recent red card, was for Jens Berthel Askou for our opponents today as they were beaten 4-2 at Leicester in January.

Ilderton's most recent game was the Championship game between Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest at the Riverside a week last Tuesday. Home players Julio Arca, Anthony McMahon and Barry Robson were all yellow carded as was Forest's Garath McCleary.

Eddie Ilderton is currently in 12th place in the RATE THE REF table.

The assistant referees are Andrew Hutchinson (Cheshire) and Ricky Wootton (West Yorkshire). The fourth official is Scott Oldham (Lancashire).
