Hewitt keeps Sandgrounders safe

They went into the game uncertain of remaining in the league but as it turned out they didn't need the points, but they did with an outstanding goal from the young Burnley midfielder. Southport's official web site described it as both a wonder strike and a peach of a goal in their match report but you can see it for yourself below via the YouTube pictures.

It wasn't just the goal; he was Southport's man of the match and his performance also won him a place in the Non League Paper's Team of the Day.

Hewitt is now back at Burnley following the end of the Conference season and in his month at Southport he made seven appearances, all of them starts after coming on as a sub on his debut just a day after signing for them.

It was his second Conference goal, the other coming just over two years ago when Alfreton made a remarkable comeback against Gateshead in March 2013. Losing 2-0 with only 13 minutes remaining they scored three times to win the game with Hewitt getting their second in what was his only other loan away from Turf Moor.

Alex Cisak was again in form for Leyton Orient. They drew 1-1 at home against Sheffield United with the goalkeeper again being voted as the O's man of the match. Burnley team mate Luke O'Neill remains out of the side through injury; he hasn't played since beating Port Vale at the end of March, a game that saw him replaced during the second half with the injury.

They are fighting relegation and face Swindon away in their last game when they will need a win whilst hoping both Notts County and Crawley fail to win their remaining games against Gillingham and Coventry respectively.

It's also going to be a busy week for Danny Lafferty. He made his ninth appearance in Rotherham's home draw against Norwich last Saturday. That should have been enough to keep them up but the day before the game they were punished with a three point penalty for fielding an ineligible player in their 1-0 win against .

Derby's Farrend Rawson played in their 1-0 win against Brighton at the beginning of April beyond his loan period and because of this they now need two points from their remaining two games at home to Reading tomorrow and at Leeds on Saturday to be certain of staying in the Championship.

Jason Gilchrist, our other player on loan, was on the bench again for Accrington on Saturday. He got on for the last half hour as they crashed 4-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge. He's now made five appearances for Stanley but four of those have been from the bench.
