Heaton and Ward miss out on bore draw

It's something I'm still to do; it's something I wasn't sure I'd ever do, but all Burnley fans were hoping that Tom Heaton would get on for some of the game today, 41 years and two days since Martin Dobson played in a 2-2 friendly draw against Yugoslavia in Belgrade to win the fourth of his five caps.

That was the last time a Burnley player represented England in a full international. Tom, along with QPR goalkeeper Rob Green, was on the bench with first choice Joe Hart playing the full game.

It was hardly a game to grab your attention and I'm sure a few, after a big Sunday lunch, might have dozed off watching it, so poor was the entertainment.

Stephen Ward, who has fought back from a bad injury this season, was on Ireland's bench and like Tom he didn't get on. Neither did former Claret Charlie Austin who had also been called up for the first time. The only one of the newbies to get onto the pitch was Leicester's Jamie Vardy.

There was a 35th cap for Gary Cahill, now a regular in the England side, and he was not the only ex-Claret to win a cap this weekend. Yesterday, Gabor Kiraly came on at half time as a substitute in Hungary's 4-0 home win against Lithuania. For the 39-yar-old goalkeeper, now with Fulham, it was a 94th cap for his country.

The INTERNATIONALS feature, which can be found in the Players drop down menu, has been updated to add the caps who by Kiraly and Cahill.
