Haywood again for Boro

Last updated : 09 September 2011 By Tony Scholes

It will be Haywood's sixth Burnley game since his appointment as a Football League referee, and the other five, like tomorrow's have all been home games.

He had a bit of a nightmare on his first appearance which was the 1-1 home draw against Leicester in late 2007, the second home game with Owen Coyle in charge of the Clarets. Since then things have improved.

He's not the most mobile of referees and he's also not a referee who makes too much use of his cards. There have been just four yellow cards in those five Burnley games, with two going our way, and looking at his record last season shows he handed out just 63 yellow and a couple of red cards in 39 games.

Overall, in five seasons, he's averaged just about two yellows per game and he's only hovering slightly higher than that this season with 19 yellow cards in 9 games of which 9 have gone to home team players and 10 to away team players.

That figure was boosted last time out in the League Two game between Crawley and Bristol Rovers. There were 5 yellow cards in a game that Crawley won 4-1. They players carded were Ben Smith, David Hunt and Michael Doughty (Crawley) and both Matt Harrold and Byron Anthony (Bristol Rovers).

Mark Haywood currently sits in 34th place in the RATE THE REF table with a rating of 60.54 out of 100.

The assistant referees tomorrow are Adrian Holmes (West Yorkshire) and Kevin Mattocks (Lancashire) and the fourth official is Carl Dunn (Staffordshire).
