Former captain on way to Birmingham

Last updated : 07 July 2011 By Tony Scholes

It's all change at Birmingham. Having been relegated last May they are under new management with Chris Hughton having replaced Alex McLeish and the new boss is looking for central defenders with both Roger Johnson and Scott Dann expected to move on before the start of next season.

Caldwell, now 30, joined the Clarets from Sunderland right at the end of the January transfer window in 2007 and was quickly appointed club captain by manager Steve Cotterill, a position he retained under both Owen Coyle and Brian Laws.

He was released in the summer of 2010 amidst suggestions of a clash with Laws and signerd last season for Wigan where he made 15 appearances, some of them alongside his brother.

He's held talks with Birmingham and suggestions are that he could be their next signing.

This article was published during the morning of 7th July and in the afternoon Steven Caldwell completed his move to Birmingham, agreeing a two year deal.
