Eagles has the DNA for Bury

But it proved not to be the case and when asked about the potential signing yesterday at a press conference, Mowbray said: "Someone told me he signed for Bury this morning so if that's the case we wish him well.

"We need to speak to him about that. I enjoyed him for a week but we wish him well at Bury. Maybe location may have been a factor, I don't know."

There was nothing all day from Bury, that was until around 10:30 p.m. last night when the Shakers announced: "Bury Football Club are delighted to reveal and confirm that free agent Chris Eagles has put pen to paper on a deal with the Shakers that will see the former Bolton & Burnley winger remain at Gigg Lane until the end of the current season. The deal was signed late this evening."

Eagles has opted for the club in third place in the table rather than the one currently fourth, just a point behind, and his new manager David Flitcroft said: "Chris is a player that represents what our DNA of a player is. He joins a number of players we have given an opportunity to reignite their love of football.

"Chris is an exceptional talent that needs a support structure that can help him realise his undoubted potential. We believe if we can get Chris back to his best then we will have an excellent addition to our already young and talented squad."
