Don't expect new signings

That’s exactly what is not going to happen and Chairman Barry Kilby has said today that the board will help Stan as much as possible but new signings could only come in if there was an emergency situation. As the Chairman says we are still in need of finding ways of cutting costs rather than increasing them.

It has also been revealed that he has done as many have asked and dipped his hand into his pocket and found £1 million to help the club during the financial problems but it is still plainly obvious that more money is needed.

For the past two to three years the club’s Chief Executive Andrew Watson has been telling us how much we needed to increase the wage bill if we were to go forwards as a club, it is that increase in the wage bill that is now crippling the club.

So what would be an emergency, under what conditions would we consider bringing in new blood, "If Nik was unable to play we would obviously have to do something," said Kilby.

"But the fact is that we are still in a position where it is a case of having to cut costs rather than add to them so, unless people go out, it is hard for new players to come in. We have had a couple of speculative enquiries but no more than that.

"It is likely that only Premiership clubs could come in for any players and the transfer window shuts next weekend so we will have to see what happens. But at this stage I am not anticipating anything happening.

"I know some fans are frustrated that we are not putting out a positive message but we have to be realistic and let them know the situation."

Barry Kilby went on to say,

"We are all working hard to fill the deficit, not just for this year but for next as well. It may be that we will face a long slog through the winter but it is something we have been preparing for.

"I have been accused of bleating on about the collapse of the ITV deal but the fact remains that this is a very different football world to the one we were living in just 12 months ago."

I’m sure the word bleating has been used by Clarets Mad and it certainly does look as though Burnley have talked about it far more than other clubs. Not for one minute do we disagree with Barry Kilby’s summing up of the situation but it is a fact that supporters are getting fed up of it and from the comments we have received are certainly not happy about the begging style phone calls they have been receiving.
