Cotterill linked with Portsmouth

Now correct me if I’m wrong but Harry is still manager of Southampton, although I’m sure not for much longer, and despite all the speculation of a return to Fratton Park the last news was that Milan Mandaric was adding another half a dozen names to his wanted list.

I heard it, listened again, and then dismissed it. Steve has taken the Clarets into the top seven of the Championship and said himself last week that he’s had a couple of short chats with chairman Barry Kilby about a new contract, even admitting that he thinks he is going to be offered a new deal.

He certainly gives the impression that he has a good working relationship with Barry Kilby, and I’ve certainly seen no evidence to suggest anything else. So why on earth would he want to go and work at a club that is owned and run by Milan Mandaric, there really is no logic to it.

And before anyone suggests he might be considered for the Southampton job once Redknapp does move, as he surely will, then please take a close look at Rupert Lowe, the Saints destroyer.

Somehow on the Hampshire coast they have managed to find two most incredible chairmen in Mandaric and Lowe. During the time Barry Kilby has been chairman of Burnley, a period of seven years with just one managerial change, those two have employed a staggering fourteen managers between them, and that doesn’t include the caretaker managers.

I think we’ll leave Radio Five Live to continue with their crazy speculation and we’ll continue to benefit from having Steve Cotterill as manager of Burnley FC.
