Coote has first Turf Moor whistle

Last updated : 14 August 2015 By Tony Scholes

Coote, previously from Nottinghamshire and then Lancashire, will be refereeing us for the fifth time and on all of the four previous occasions we've scored three goals, drawing the first two 3-3 and then recording 3-0 and 3-2 victories.

He first joined the Football League list as an assistant referee when his first game was between Stockport and Hereford at Edgeley Park, and won promotion to the referees' list in 2010.

Although it is almost 20 months since he refereed a Burnley league game, he was in charge of our pre-season game at Fleetwood when he awarded us a penalty.

Last season his yellow card count was up somewhat. Usually averaging three per game, that increased to exactly four with 116 yellows in 29 games. There were just four red cards all season including the dismissal of Middlesbrough keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos on the last occasion he refereed tomorrow's opponents Birmingham.

He was in action on the opening day of the season, refereeing the game between Brentford and Ipswich at Griffin Park which saw Brentford score two stoppage time goals to earn a point in a 2-2 draw. There was just one yellow card in that game, that of Brentford's Jota.

I'm not sure we've had too many problems with him other than the game at Watford in 2013 when he was carding wrong players and even getting an assist on a Watford goal.

David Coote is currently 53rd in RATE THE REF with a rating of 52.61 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Kevin Mulraine (Cumbria) and Thomas Kirk (Cheshire). The fourth official is Football League referee Graham Salisbury (Lancashire) who last refereed Burnley when a Sam Vokes goal gave us a 1-0 win at Bolton in February 2014.
