Clattenburg will be at the Bridge

He missed the hand ball that night from David Nugent as he scored the only goal of the game but overall, his first Burnley game apart, there have been no real problems when he's taken charge of our games. That is if you don't consider conceding seven goals at home, he refereed the farcical game against Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the 2002/03 season.

Clattenburg is a referee who likes his yellow cards although he kept them in his pocket through the entire 2008/09 season. This was because of an eight month suspension brought about because of pending investigations regarding alleged debts incurred by companies in which he is involved.

He was initially sacked as a referee but re-instated on appeal but he had to wait until the suspension was over. He finally refereed the Manchester City v Bolton game on the last day of last season, his first domestic game since the Championship Play Off semi-final between Hull and Watford a year earlier.

Tomorrow will be his third game this season. He's refereed Aston Villa v Wigan on the opening day of the season and West Ham v Spurs last Sunday. In those games he's given out seven yellow cards. Four of these have gone to home players and three to away players.

The 35-year-old from the north east was once considered England's flashiest referee, now he's trying to rebuild his career after that season out of the game.

He will be assisted by Dave Bryan (Lincolnshire) and Mark Scholes (Buckinghamshire). Kevin Friend (Leicester), newly promoted to the select group this season, will be the fourth official.
