The surprise was that Brighton only won by one goal but by not losing they are now the only team in the Championship without a defeat this season. Prior to Tuesday night both Birmingham and Cardiff could boast being in that group, but both were beaten at home, Birmingham losing to Nottingham Forest and Cardiff going down to Hull.
Those defeats have seen Birmingham drop out of the top six whilst Cardiff are just in there having kicked off the midweek game in second place. It's Ipswich who have moved into the top six in Birmingham's place; they recovered from the heavy defeat at Reading to win at Leeds.
At the other end of the table we've still got two sides looking for their first win. Rotherham are stuck on bottom place with just two points and directly above them are Blackburn who were again in West London last night, this time drawing 2-2 at QPR.
I would have loved to be in the Blackburn dressing room at the final whistle when Gary Bowyer apparently said there were strong words aimed at his players because of how and when they gave the two goals away. I didn't know he had it in him to get beyond his mumbling style of talking.
As for Rotherham, their manager Steve Evans has been in demand. For a while he was favourite to replace Dave Robertson at Peterborough but that seems to have cooled.
We're into mid-September and we still have the 24 managers we started with. Only in League One have there been changes with all of Peterborough, Doncaster and Oldham deciding on a change, two of them after summer appointments. Talk about giving a new manager time.
One thing that surprised me on Tuesday was the superior attendance at Deepdale. I know the opposition were only Bristol City but I would imagine they took considerably more supporters with them than did that lot who turned up at the Turf on the same night.
Only 9,963 were there and that's their lowest attendance since March when there were less than 9,000 there for a League One game against Peterborough.
Our attendances are looking good just now. The average is 15,777 and that's better than all of Blackburn, Bolton, Brentford, Bristol City, Cardiff, Huddersfield, MK, Preston, QPR and Rotherham.
One area where we are close to the bottom is in terms of the yellow cards. We've landed only seven in seven league games and one of those can be chalked off in that it was the one Jelle Vossen received in the home draw against Birmingham. Three in the Capital One Cup takes our total to ten, the same as both Bristol City and Derby. Brighton lead the way with 24, 20 of them in the league.
Brighton have also got the league's joint leading goalscorer in Tomer Hemed who now has five alongside Charlie Austin.
There's a full fixture list this weekend. Ipswich kick it off against Birmingham tomorrow night and we bring it to a close at Derby on Monday. All the remaining ten fixtures will be played on Saturday, all but Forest v Middlesbrough kicking off at 3 p.m.
