A Claret International roundup

Stephen Ward was in the Republic of Ireland squad for their two fixtures but was an unused substitute in both games, just as was the case with Tom Heaton who watched from the sidelines as England qualified for Euro 2016 in San Marino and then last night as Wayne Rooney broke the England goalscoring record at Wembley against Switzerland.

The remaining Burnley player called up for full international duty was Tendayi Darikwa who got the call from Zimbabwe. However, the Nottingham born full back declined the invitation and did not travel.

As previously reported, we had three players involved with the Northern Ireland under-21 side in their game against Scotland. Cameron Dummigan also played in their follow up game, a -1 draw against Iceland, and two days ago Khius Metz (pictured) was in the Republic of Ireland under-19 team that lost to Italy 2-1 in a friendly.

The Irish led 1-0 at half time before making eight substitutions. Metz had played in the first half and given an outstanding performance.

Away from current Burnley players, and there were three former Clarets very much in the headlines as Northern Ireland edged closer to a qualification with a 1-1 home draw against Hungary. Chris Baird was controversially sent off in a game that Northern Ireland were losing 1-0 until right at the end.

Then, Kyle Lafferty got onto a rebound after his former Burnley team mate Gabor Kiraly could only parry a shot into his path. Lafferty hasn't featured this season for Norwich but said after the game he was ready and fit enough to play half a game. He said he was reluctant to go out on loan to a Championship club because he doesn't want to play long ball football.

Steven Fletcher was in the Scotland side that lost 3-2 to Germany at Hampden. It's going to be a difficult task now for the Scots to qualify.

While the European based players have been involved in Euro qualifiers, David Edgar has been involved in qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup with Canada playing two games against Belize. They won the first one in Toronto 3-0 before drawing 1-1 last night in Belmopán.

And finally, Alex Cisak, who recently left Burnley for Leyton Orient, didn't win his first cap for Australia but was on the bench for their 3-0 World Cup qualifying win against Tajikistan in Dushanbe. The Aussies had Bournemouth's Adam Federici in goal.

The INTERNATIONALS feature, which lists all of the full caps won by past and present Clarets, has now been updated and can be found within the Players drop down menu.
