It was always going to be a tough ask for the young Clarets in the two day tournament which also featured Celta Viga from Spain as well as Portuguese sides Sporting Lisbon and the local club Academica.

The tournament was an under-19 tournament too, but Burnley took the youth team which is an under-18 squad, and so that was always going to make it doubly difficult. Even so, and although we finished in fourth place, we acquitted ourselves well.

It was the two Portuguese sides who met in the final. Sporting Lisbon beat Celta Viga handsomely whilst Burnley went out 1-0 against the hosts Academica.

That left us to play in the third/fourth place game against Celta Viga, a game we drew before losing on penalties. Meanwhile it was Sporting who won the competition with a 2-0 win against Academica.

Clarets Mad Youth Foundation were delighted to be able to help fund our team in the competition and the games, along with those already played at home, should set them up for the season ahead.
