Walsall win again in Alliance

There were only three games this weekend with all of them affecting the top few places in the league. Preston went top last week and ensured they would remain there with a 3-2 home win in the West Lancs derby at home to Blackpool.

It's been a strange start to the league with some teams having played six already with others, like Burnley who were without a game, having played just four times, but it hasn't stopped Walsall who made it four out of four with a 2-0 win against Macclesfield.

That meant they went into second place, moving ahead of both Burnley and Tranmere who lost at home to Carlisle in the other game played which has seen the Cumbrians move into third place.

The league gets back into full swing next week with a nine match fixture list that sees Preston miss out. A win for Walsall against Wrexham would see them go top.

Last Saturday's results are below along with this weekend's fixtures, Burnley's goalscorers and the current league table.
