Walsall go top as Burnley move up a place

It's been a fantastic start to the season for Walsall and their 6-1 win at Tranmere maintained their 100% start with seven wins out of seven.  They've got a goal difference of plus 18 from those game and are now two points clear at the top with two games in hand, although they could lose that lead again next week as they have no game.

It needed Burnley to beat Preston to see them in top place and we duly did that. It must have been a poor day for North End as, come Monday night, their club haven't bothered to report the news of the defeat as yet.

That result has moved us up one place in the table and to within one point of Preston whilst Carlisle, with a better goal difference than us, sit between us. We've certainly recovered from that disappointing run of three defeats and have now won our last three.

Accrington have had a good week. They were bottom before their game a week last Saturday with just two points from their six games, but they followed up last week's win with a 3-1 success at Blackpool and the six points have lifted them four places in the table.

That's left Morecambe at the bottom, a couple of points adrift and having played more games than the cluster of clubs above them. They lost at Rochdale, last season's champions, who have now moved into the middle of the table. There were also wins for Bury, Stockport and Wrexham .

Burnley travel to Blackpool this coming Saturday, hoping to keep pressure on those clubs above us, but right now it does look as though Walsall are going to take some stopping.
