Preston replace Burnley at top of Central League

Burnley's leading scorer Wes Fletcher

It kicked off with our 3-2 win at Wrexham with Dominic Knowles scoring from the penalty spot and Wes Fletcher scoring two late goals to win it for the Clarets, that result taking us to the top of the league.

On the same day as our win, Tranmere Rovers also picked up three points with a 2-0 home win against Oldham Athletic. Tranmere selected a fairly strong side and they went in front on just 12 minutes when Joss Labadie was fouled in the box and got up to scored himself from the resulting penalty.

It remained at 1-0 until just before the end when Martin Devaney, who has played in the Championship for both Watford and Barnsley, scored his first goal since signing leaving Barnsley for Tranmere in the summer.

It was another two weeks before there was another game and that came at Morecambe where the home side were much too strong for Macclesfield Town, beating them 6-0. Joe McGee opened the scoring whilst Sean Breen scored the fifth. The other four were all scored by Lewis Alessandra including one from the penalty spot.

Morecambe were back in action again yesterday but this time had to settle for a point in a 2-2 home draw against Wrexham who took an early lead when goalkeeper Shaun Routledge failed to deal with a back pass and let in Rob Salathiel to open the scoring.

Morecambe should have got back into it when the won a penalty but it  was missed by Phil Jevons but they were on top and it came as no surprise when they did get back on terms, and it was Jevons this time on target with a left foot shot early in the second half.

Danny Carlton then gave the home side the lead but Wrexham came back to get a point with a superb strike from James Colbeck.

Yesterday also saw the Clarets lose their place at the top of the Central League when Preston moved back with a 3-0 away win against Oldham.

It was a comfortable win for North End, obviously celebrating the appointment of Peter Ridsdale as chairman. They led 1-0 at half time with a thunderous strike from George Miller. Steven Smith curled in a free kick early in the second half and Juvhel Tsoumou completed the scoring with a neat finish.

That's it for 2011 with no further fixtures until January when the Clarets will also be back in action with a home game against Tranmere Rovers on the 10th.
