Five of the twelve ties paired teams from each league against each other but three of them resulted in wins for the North East and just two for the North West.

Our winners were Blackpool and Wigan. Blackpool travelled to Grimsby and won 5-0 and it was the same scoreline for Hull who won at Carlisle.

The other North West winners were Wigan who, after a 1-1 draw, saw off Hartlepool on penalties whilst Morecambe were beaten 1-0 at home by Doncaster and Fleetwood suffered a 2-1 reverse at York.

The remaining seven games saw teams play each other from their own leagues. We kicked it off last Friday with a home defeat against Tranmere and other results involving teams in our league saw Port Vale and Oldham win away games at Bury and Walsall respectively, and Accrington get through on penalties at Wrexham.

The last three ties were all North East League affairs. Scunthorpe won at Chesterfield with the other two requiring penalty shoot outs leading to Burton and Rotherham winning home games against Notts County and Mansfield.

There was one more tie, that between Rochdale and Preston. It was scheduled to be played yesterday afternoon but the result is not yet available.

It's back to league action this week and we are back at the Arbories, home of Padiham FC, for our fixture against Shrewsbury. Out of the cup we may be but we are unbeaten in three games in the league with seven points from two wins and a draw. Shrewsbury have four points from four games having won one, lost two and drawn one.

Kick off at Padiham is 11 a.m.
