Gilchrist goal wins youth game

Jason Gilchrist

Gilchrist scored Burnley's first goal of the season, getting us underway in the opening game with the first goal in a 5-0 win against Morecambe. He was also on the scoresheet twice as we came back from 3-0 down to beat Blackpool 4-3 at the end of August.

He scored our consolation goal in the next game and that had given him and Shay McCartan a great start to the new season up front. However, neither of them have scored in the last four games and with McCartan out again today on international duty the responsibility fell with Gilchrist.

And he was on the mark around the half hour mark. Archie Love won a header which enabled the former Manchester City youngster to run on and score past Carlisle goalkeeper Jordan Parker.

It certainly wasn't one way traffic and Carlisle had the most possession in the second half and put us under some pressure. However, Alex Coleman and Tom Anderson were in excellent form at the back and helped the young Clarets to a clean sheet and three points.

Burnley lined up: Josh Cook, Aryn Williams, Alex Coleman, Tom Anderson, Charlie Holt, Jordan Scott (Jamie Frost 74), Steven Hewitt, Archie Love, Adam Evans, Alex Mullin, Jason Gilchrist (Daniel Mukuna 74). Subs not used: Callum Jakovlevs, Waqas Azam.
