Clarets strengthen youth squad and move up to fifth

It was a weekend when there was no let up from the top three clubs. Preston retained top place with a 2-1 home win against Accrington and they needed it to keep their one point lead with the two clubs right behind them, Carlisle and Walsall both winning again.

Walsall have now moved into second place having now got a better goal difference than Carlisle. The two of them remain a point behind Preston with Walsall still having a 100% record with two games in hand.

Blackpool, Macclesfield, Tranmere and Wigan were the other winners, and Tranmere sit above us with a better goal difference.

With only four games to be played this coming Saturday, only one of the four teams above us are in action and that's Carlisle who we face. It will be a tough game for the Clarets but a win will put us right back into contention.

And our squad has been increased today by the signing of 17-year-old Luke Gallagher. He's joined Burnley from Dublin club Cherry Orchard on a two-year scholarship with Martin Dobson describing him as having a steely determination to succeed.

He'll be available for the Clarets once his international clearance is received, but we know from recent experience that it could take some time.

The results from the weekend, the next fixtures, Burnley's goalscorers and the league table are below.
