Clarets move up one place in Central League

Michael King scored Morecambe's second

The first of the games was Wrexham's home game against Tranmere on Tuesday. Like Oldham, Wrexham now play their home games at the training ground and with former Claret Glen Little now a regular in their team they were too strong for Tranmere.

Obi Anoruo opened the scoring in just the third minute and the lead was doubled with just over 20 minutes to go when Steve Tomassen headed home. Wrexham added a third with three minutes remaining although the goalscorer hasn't been confirmed.

Onto Wednesday and there were two games, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, with both ending 4-1.

Preston were the first winners, beating Macclesfield Town at Chorley.  They took an early lead with a half volley from George Miller and it was 2-0 by half time with Bailey Wright getting the second.

In the second half, Danny Mayor made it 3-0 before Macc pulled one back with Tom Fisher curling a shot past Iain Turner, but Michael McLellan added a fourth for Preston to complete the scoring.

Morecambe hosted Oldham in the evening and kicked off bottom of the league, but their fortunes improved with a 4-1 victory over the Latics whose former player Lewis Alessandra gave Morecambe the lead.

Oldham captain Dean Furman, on his way back from injury, equalised, but it was 2-1 to Morecambe at the break when the impressive Michael King, who played for Burnley against Morecambe last season in the Carling Cup at the Globe Arena, put the home side back in front right on half time.

Kingy was playing his second game for the Shrimps as he looks to impress manager Jim Bentley enough to win a contract.

Dan Parkinson made it 3-1 before Alessandra got his second and their fourth to complete the scoring. However, the result didn't really reflect the game with Oldham very unfortunate. Over the 90 minutes they hit the Morecambe woodwork no less than four times.

That result lifted Morecambe from bottom place to second but whilst they jumped above Burnley there were drops in the league for both Oldham and Macclesfield with the Clarets now above them on goal difference.

There's just one game next week, when Macclesfield face Tranmere, with the Clarets next in action on 8th November with a home game against Morecambe.
