Clarets move up as Preston hit scoring record

Dom Knowles - two goals at Port Vale
They were ahead of both Stockport and Rochdale on goal difference a week ago but they got their game in early last week, playing on Wednesday and the Shrimpers just had no answer as North End took their goal tally for the season to 21 in just four games.

With Stockport losing on Saturday at Wigan and Rochdale without a game it left North End three points clear at the top of the table.

At the other end Burnley were off the bottom only on alphabetical order from Port Vale but we put an end to that as the two pointless sides met on Saturday. Two goals from captain Dom Knowles with Curtis Woods and James Taylor also on the scoresheet gave us a comfortable 4-1 win and we now sit in fifteenth place after finally getting our season underway.

Burnley's team was: Danny McDonald, Ed Williams, Steve Edwards, Curtis Woods, Jake McEneaney, Ross Wilson (Liam Newman 68), Oliver Devenney, Joe Jackson (James Taylor 68), Michael King, Dom Knowles (Dave Lynch 68), Joe McKee.

Macclesfield were also big scorers, beating Walsall 5-0 and on Friday non-league strugglers Chester recorded their first win with a 2-1 success at Shrewsbury.

For those not travelling to Liverpool this Saturday there is an opportunity to see the young Clarets in action at Gawthorpe when we play Accrington Stanley. Kick off is 11:00 a.m.
