Central League just about back into life

In that four week period there have been just three games, one three weeks ago and two this week, and those results have seen Burnley move up to second in the league with the win over Morecambe this week.

The game three weeks ago, on 18th October, saw Tranmere record an amazing 7-2 win at Macclesfield. Tranmere started the game in bottom place and things didn't look as though they were going to get any better for them when Scott Kay gave Macclesfield on the half hour.

Tranmere equalised five minutes later through Mustafa Tiryaki. Cole Stockton then gave them the lead on 41 minutes and right on half time Joss Labadie made it 3-1.

The goalscoring continued early in the second half. Stockton got his second and Tranmere's fourth before John Grant brought Macclesfield back into it at 4-2.

There was to be no comeback and it was Tranmere who bagged the remaining goals, three of them in total. Stockton completed his hat trick before Joe Conchie made it 6-2, with Jake Kirby completing the scoring with a couple of minutes remaining.

That was it until Tuesday of this week when the Clarets won 6-0 against Morecambe to move into second place and within two points of leaders Preston.

That lead at the top stretched to three points a day later with Preston drawing 1-1 at home against Wrexham, and they had to come from behind when Leon Clowes gave the visitors the lead. Sam Hoskins, who has signed on loan this week from Southampton, got Preston's equaliser in a game played at Chorley in front of an attendance of 47.

Having waited weeks for a game, we've now got another next week when we travel to Wrexham. The game kicks off at 2:00 p.m. next Wednesday at their training ground at Colliers Park, Chester Road, Gresford, LL12 8PW.
