The season's first goal of the month vote

Four goals from Charlie Austin

Four of those goals have come in the Capital One Cup, three against Port Vale and one in last week's tie against Plymouth; the other four goals have been two each in the opening two league games against Bolton at home and Middlesbrough at the Riverside.

The season got underway at Port Vale and having gone behind, Chris McCann got our first goal of 2012/13 season, heading home a corner from Ross Wallace.

Charlie Austin gave us the lead, placing the ball into the virtually empty net from the edge of the box after Dean Marney had pushed it past the goalkeeper following a mistake by Vale defender Joe Davis.

Marney himself got the third, making a run into the box on the left hand side before rifling home a shot into the top corner.

The league season started with a fantastic win against Bolton. Martin Paterson opened the scoring, heading home after being set up by Austin after what had looked like a pinball session as two previous shots were blocked. And then Austin completed the scoring, turning in a Junior Stanislas cross from the left.

Those two players got the goals at Middlesbrough. Austin headed us into the lead from a Kieran Trippier cross and Stanislas then equalised for us in the second half after a McCann header, which had gone in but wasn't given, was cleared by former Claret Rhys Williams.

A blank sheet at Huddersfield followed and then Austin scored, for the fourth time, heading home a cross from Marvin Bartley to give us a 1-0 lead in a game that we eventually won on penalties.

Voting will run until the end of Friday with those eight choices; four Austin goals and one each for McCann, Marney, Paterson and Stanislas. You can vote via the front page or via the VOTING POLLS page.

The winning goal for August, as for all monthly winners, will be guaranteed a place in the vote for the Goal of the Season in May.
