Robbie Blake is the only player to have previously won it twice, but for Robbie it was one in each of his two spells with the club, in 2003/04 and again in our play-off winning season in 2008/09.
Shackell needed either just one point from the Aston Villa game, or for Danny Ings not to take the maximum ten points, to win it outright, and both occurred to ensure he won it by eleven points, again coming through late to win in the way he did last season to go past the injured Sam Vokes at the end of the season.
Heaton was the star in the Villa game, winning both the man of the match vote and the player ratings. He polled 68% of the vote. That left Shackell and Ings sharing second place with a 7.8% share and Fredrik Ulvestad, making his first start, coming fourth with 5.9% of the vote.
It was very much Ings and the defence in the player ratings. Again Heaton was the winner with a rating of 8.92 out of 10, followed by Shackell and Ings who had ratings of 8.33 and 8.08 respectively. Michael Keane, who came back in for Michael Duff, and Kieran Trippier were joint fourth with each scoring a rating of 7.25 out of 10.
The points won were the maximum ten for Heaton, six for Shackell, five for Ings, and one each for Keane, Trippier and Ulvestad, and those points have won Shackell the award as well as him claiming the player of the month award for May.
